Internationally connected
Auckland city shares relationships and programmes with its eight international partner cities Brisbane (Australia), Busan (Korea), Guangzhou (China), Hamburg (Germany), Los Angeles (USA), Fukuoka, Shinagawa and Tomioka (all Japan).
Each partner city has a variety of initiatives in place, generally concentrated on business, education, best practice, tourism and culture. The relationships have recently been strategically refocused to facilitate economic opportunities where possible. The average economic benefit for Auckland’s economy is an additional NZ$ 55 million per year.
Multicultural city
Auckland is a melting pot of different cultures with many influences from the Maori, South Pacific and Asian population. About 38 per cent of Auckland city’s population are born overseas, and 30 per cent speak two languages or more of which the majority are Asian languages.
